"For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” -Long Walk to Freedom
There are few people I would ever think to nominate for President of Earth: Adlai Stevenson, Gandhi, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Mandela himself. I don't know if we will ever make it as one people, united in purpose for our own mutual prosperity. I am hopeful. Our diverse voices make us stronger not weaker.
While we seem to have an unending supply of things to argue about and conflict over. Some governments and people can't seem to treat each other with the respect and compassion they deserve as human beings. Others are more hopeful and are working for that brave new world we must pass on to the next generation. Mandela was one of those working for that future. Like all those that inspire hope, when ones time is at an end, the others they have inspired will pick up where they left off to continue the march for freedom, peace, compassion and understanding.
Stand between the darkness and the light friends. It may be the only thing that will save us.
